The mission of Community Groups at CBC is to create small group communities that provide connection, encourage transformation, and cultivate mission for the growth of the kingdom and to present everyone mature in Christ. We have several groups that meet at various times and locations throughout the school year.
We strive for our groups to be defined by the following values:
Unity (Eph. 4:1-3): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community of unity among diversity centered around our common ground as followers of Jesus.
Transformation (Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 3:18): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community focused on mutual personal transformation into the image of Christ.
Authenticity (Rom. 12:9a): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community that promotes authenticity by providing a safe place that fosters trust and respect, allowing people to be transparent.
Accountability (Rom. 12:9b): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community of accountability that acknowledges the reality of sin, so that when one falls down another is there to help them back up.
Encouragement (Heb. 10:24-25): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community that encourages each other toward spiritual maturity by God’s grace.
Love (Rom. 12:10): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community that loves one another by genuinely valuing and honoring each other.
Endurance (Rom. 12:12): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community that endures with one another by reminding each other of our hope, walking with each other through our trials, and praying for each other continually.
Care (Romans 12:13a): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community that demonstrates the love of Jesus by caring for each other’s needs inside the group as well as the needs of those outside the group who need to know the love of Jesus.
Hospitality (Romans 12:13b): CBC Community Groups seek to develop a community in which everyone feels welcome and wanted.
Community Groups at CBC have the following goals:
Connection: It is the goal of CBC Community Groups to help its members develop both a vertical connection with God and horizontal connections with each other. Through the vertical connection, we come to know God, the gospel, and His love for us. Through the horizontal connections, we are able to give and receive God’s love to each other, helping each other mature in our mutual journey of sanctification and discipleship.
Transformation: As we connect to and understand God’s love for us and connect with each other by sharing that love, we will be open to the Holy Spirit’s work of transforming us into the image of Christ. This is accomplished from a submitted heart devoted to learning, prayer, and mutual life interaction.
Mission: The next step for a community that is being transformed is to express that transformation through engaging in the mission of Jesus Christ. Missional engagement can happen in any individual context and through all spiritual gifts. In light of this, a general understanding of the mission of Jesus to the world needs to be understood as well as a specific understanding of each person's spiritual gifting, natural abilities, personality, experiences, and the leading of the Holy Spirit so they can engage the mission they were called to in the way they were designed. The community group's goal should be to create an environment of intentional and mutual encouragement for individuals to actively engage in mission and the community group itself to engage in mission collectively when appropriate.
